District Watch: Cross Country — Zizzer Boys Win Cedar Ridge; Gunter and Finke Finish Near the Front

Four Zizzers in the top five. Another team championship for West Plains.

The varsity boys won the Cedar Ridge Invitational in Branson on Saturday, October 10, with 32 points. Kickapoo finished second with 74, followed by Ozark with 85.

Kaebrynn Gunter and Lena Finke added second- and third-place finishes in the varsity girls race, giving West Plains more to celebrate as conference and district meets approach.

Romans Wins; Zizzers Run Together Near the Front

Blake Romans led the boys with a winning time of 16:04.4.

Hunter Stanley finished second, Joseph Roberson fourth and Chaska Shearin fifth. Just 22 seconds separated those four Zizzers.

Two Top-Three Finishes for the Lady Zizzers

Gunter finished second in 18:18.7, and Finke followed in third at 19:56.6.

They were the only West Plains finishers listed in the varsity girls race, so the Lady Zizzers did not record a team score. Those results still gave both runners a strong finish at Cedar Ridge.

Conference Comes Next

Both West Plains teams are scheduled for the Ozark Mountain Conference meet on Friday, October 16.

The Class 4 District 2 meet follows on Saturday, October 31.

Cedar Ridge gave the boys a team title and the girls two finishes near the front. Friday brings the next opportunity to represent West Plains, this time with conference honors on the line.
