Zizzer Boys Place Third; Gunter and Stanley Earn Top-10 Finishes at MSSU Southern Stampede
The West Plains varsity boys placed third, and the Zizzers recorded two top-10 individual finishes Saturday at the MSSU Southern Stampede in Joplin.
Hunter Stanley finished 10th in the varsity boys’ 5K, helping West Plains earn third place in the team standings. Kaebrynn Gunter led the Lady Zizzers with a fifth-place finish as the West Plains girls placed seventh.
The meet brought together a large field of runners from Missouri and several surrounding states at the Missouri Southern Cross Country Course.
Zizzer Boys Earn Third Place
Stanley led West Plains by completing the 5K course in 15:51.34, earning 10th place overall and eighth among runners in the Zizzers’ division.
Joseph Roberson placed 23rd overall in 16:24.54, followed by Blake Romans in 30th with a time of 16:29.73.
Chaska Shearin placed 45th in 16:43.89, while Dylan Wade completed the five-runner scoring lineup in 82nd at 17:19.22.
Knox Weisbrod was West Plains’ sixth finisher, placing 120th overall in 17:50.01.
The Zizzers and Bolivar each finished with 156 team points, but West Plains earned third place through the sixth-runner tiebreaker. Weisbrod’s 92nd-place divisional score finished ahead of Bolivar’s sixth-runner score of 109.

Lady Zizzers Place Seventh
Gunter delivered the highest individual finish of the day for West Plains, placing fifth overall with a time of 18:25.38.
Lena Finke was the second Lady Zizzer across the finish line, placing 41st in 19:58.50. Libby Hart followed in 47th with a time of 20:10.56, while Abi Mongillo placed 56th in 20:21.36.
Jane Cobb completed the scoring lineup for West Plains, finishing 167th in 22:14.47.
The Lady Zizzers totaled 235 points, placing seventh among 24 scoring teams in their division.
