Zizzers Go 4-0 After Shutting Out Kickapoo

In years past, the rivalry against Class 6 Kickapoo has been pretty intense (they ruined our “perfect” season in 2015 and handed us another loss in 2016). But this season (and last) is totally different. Kickapoo is in a rebuilding phase, and the Zizzers have been constantly improving since the last time they faced each other.

The Zizzers first series of defensive & offensive plays of the game was a bit of foreshadowing for the remainder of the game: Zizzer defense stops the Kickapoo offense in 4 downs, and then Zizzer Offense does this: a 95-yard Lidgard touchdown run followed by a Cressman extra point kick. Less than 2 minutes had been played on the clock.

The rest of the night was similar. Lidgard got 189 yards, 3 touchdowns, 17 carries. QB Rackley completed 11 out of 17 passes, for 149 yards and 3 more touchdowns.  The amazing Zizzer Defense held Kickapoo to 87 total yards, and zero scores, yielding this amazing stat: 174-7.  That’s Zizzer points vs our opponents points … for the entire season so far.  Yep, Zizzer Defense has only allowed 7 points on the season. Whoa.

At the end of the first half, Zizzers earned 371 yards while Kickapoo earned 31. By game’s end, Zizzers earned 421 total yards, with mostly the second string team on the field for the 2nd half, so they could get more varsity time under their belt, and our 1st string could get some rest and not risk any injuries before next week’s big challenge – Lebanon’s undefeated Yellowjackets.

After Lidgard’s big run, Rackley found Marcak for another score! And another Cressman extra point! Let’s brag on Marcak a little bit here – he stepped up as our number 3 QB, to helm the team while both Rackley and Parker Ramseur were out with injuries. He lead the Zizzers to victory as QB, but now that Rackley is back, he’s receiving and playing defense – and doing a heck of a job! Kudos to Marcak!  Marcak had four catches and 71 yards, PLUS an interception while playing defense!

Rackley lobbed one to Marcak and put another score on the board. Lidgard scored 2 more times in the 2nd quarter, and Rackley found Daniel Cobb for the last score of the game. Cressman’s extra point kicks found their mark every time and the Zizzers were up 42-0 at the half.  And that’s all the scoring either team would see for the remainder of the game.

Kickapoo is not the powerhouse they used to be – and that was the case last year as well. We wish them well as they go through a rebuilding time. That’s the thing about high school sports – it can turn on a dime.

Next up? Undefeated Lebanon, at home, in our house! They handed us a loss last year at their house. Let’s return the favor to them this year!
