Zizzer Football Goes 4-0 After Defeating Hillcrest 42-6

The Zizzers traveled to Hillcrest to take on the Hornets on their home turf, looking to take their season to 4-0 – and they did it! The Hornets came into this game with a 2-1 record with a big win over former passing powerhouse Glendale recently.

But the Zizzer defense kept the Hornets contained for most of the game allowing only 6 points – and the Zizzer defense had to work hard to keep it that way. The scoreboard makes it look like our Zizzer defense simply dominated (and they were really terrific!) but Hillcrest’s QB was a very good scrambler, and given the time he would find an open receiver. So there were several intense plays from Hillcrest where they would make up for lost yards very quickly, and it seemed like momentum would be on Hillcrest’s side – especially during the 2nd quarter when it looked like Hillcrest was coming back with vengeance…

BUT that was not to be the case, because our Zizzer defense would put up the pressure and force turnover at crucial moments. Zizzer’s Red Zone defense has been responsible for some game changing moments this season. In this game alone the Zizzer D forced FIVE turnovers, THREE interceptions (Andrew Wheeler has FIVE for the season so far, and Lane Jett grabbed TWO at this game) and TWO fumble recoveries (Garel McGinley stripped a ball away and Lane Jett recovered it; Ian Ary forced a fumble and Mason Wilbanks recovered it). THAT is game changing momentum!

Zizzer defense set it up for the amazing Zizzer offense to do their thing and put points on the board. And boy did they! As usual, Coach Ary likes to keep the ball on the ground and just pound away at the opposing team’s defense. Sophomore Brayden Lidgard did just that, by running play after play right into the defensive line and finding holes to punch through. Our Zizzer Offensive Line did their job well and provided all kinds of openings for Lidgard to plow through.

And when Hillcrest would get it figured out and focus on Lidgard, then Rackley would throw or keep it and run. Rackley scored two of the night’s touchdowns. Lidgard scored three and Daniel Cobb received Rackley’s only touchdown pass for the night. Every Trey Cressman kick was good – as usual.

Folks, the bottom line is that it’s exciting and fun to watch these young Zizzers go out and fight hard each Friday night. You’re missing out if you haven’t come out to a home game to support the team! And you have 2 opportunities coming up – this Friday and next we’ll be at home! Let’s #GoZizzers!
