The Zizzer football boys faced their first tough opponent this season and came away with a loss at home, 55-41.
The Camdenton Lakers came out fast to get the momentum going scoring against the Zizzer quickly, but then by the half the Zizzers had come back strong, 21-20 Lakers lead. But the 3rd quarter was where the Lakers came back again with more momentum after both a half time rest, as well as a lightning delay prior to the half.
The Zizzers were looking to capitalize on a tired Lakers team late in the game, but it just didn’t work out that way. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Lakers lead 41-20 and it looked bad for the Zizzers. But once again, the Zizzers sprang to life and made a big comeback in the 4th quarter, getting to within 6 points. Sadly the tide turned for the worse when an offside kick attempt went about as badly as you could imagine, as the Lakers recovered the ball, broke through the Zizzer line and ran it in for 6 extending the lead and ending the game.
There were some amazing plays by several Zizzers, and of course Keegan Hoopes got his fair share of them, as to be expected. He is an almost unstoppable force, made even more powerful when his offensive line breaks open a hole for him to make his run. And he made several big runs throughout the night. There’s a reason why he’s a 1st Team All-Conference player!
But another star emerged for the night as well, 18 Andrew Wheeler who played both offensively and defensively and made things happen on the field both ways. We’ve seen big plays from Wheeler before so that is nothing new, but this night Wheeler intercepted or swatted away the ball many times. When he was on defense, if the Lakers threw the ball into his area, he was able to read the play and move into position time and time again to shut it down. Offensively, he made several great plays as well. Unfortunately, late in the game he was injured and pulled out of the game. Keep him in your prayers!
Bottom line: the Lakers pulled out the win. But I truly believe this Zizzer team has what it takes to defeat the Lakers and they showed it twice during the game with their big comeback plays. Perhaps we’ll see the Lakers again in post season play?
We’re proud of you Zizzers! Show the world what you’ve got in the remaining season games. Go Zizzers!
