District Watch Volleyball: Lady Zizzers Take No. 1 Seed Into a District Full of Familiar Foes

The Lady Zizzers have earned the top seed in Class 4 District 6, and their regular-season results give West Plains fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the postseason.

Three potential district opponents have already fallen to West Plains this season. Another, Carl Junction, handed the Lady Zizzers their final regular-season loss.

That sets up an interesting district tournament. West Plains enters at 29–5–1, with the championship race beginning Tuesday at Logan-Rogersville High School.

Three Familiar Opponents, Three Zizzer Victories

The Lady Zizzers didn’t earn their No. 1 seed on reputation alone. Their regular-season record includes victories over Willard, Logan-Rogersville, and Hillcrest — all members of the Class 4 District 6 field.

West Plains swept Willard 2–0 at the September 12 West Plains Showdown before defeating Logan-Rogersville 3–1 on September 24.

Then came an October 8 trip to Hillcrest, where the Lady Zizzers won 25–14, 25–17, and 25–14.

That Hillcrest victory showed contributions throughout the lineup. Violet Hafer led the attack with 11 kills, while Ashlyn Tinsley and Kinley Smith added eight apiece. Aubrey Tidwell distributed 28 assists, and Emersyn Brunson collected 19 digs.

Those results matter because West Plains could see one of those familiar opponents again before reaching the district championship.

Previous victories don’t guarantee another, but the Lady Zizzers have already demonstrated they can compete successfully against teams in their district.

The Carl Junction Question

One of the more interesting developments since our previous District Watch came in the regular-season finale.

Carl Junction defeated West Plains 3–1 on October 15, giving the Lady Zizzers a different result to consider heading into tournament play.

West Plains had already earned the district’s top seed. That hasn’t changed.

What has changed is the recent head-to-head picture. The Lady Zizzers have victories over three district opponents, while Carl Junction enters the tournament having beaten West Plains in their most recent meeting.

Carl Junction sits at 18–11–4, compared with West Plains’ 29–5–1. The Bulldogs also have the second-best overall record in the eight-team district field.

That makes Carl Junction a team to keep an eye on, although a possible championship meeting remains several matches away.

Tested by a Challenging Finish

The Lady Zizzers also gained valuable experience against strong competition at the October 9–10 Ozark Grand Slam.

West Plains opened with straight-set victories over St. Francis Borgia and Greenwood, Arkansas.

The following day brought close battles against Nixa and Eureka, along with a matchup against Lutheran St. Charles. West Plains finished the tournament 2–3.

Against Nixa, the Lady Zizzers pushed the match to a deciding third set before falling 25–22. They also took a set from Eureka.

Head Coach Hailey Beazley told the West Plains Daily Quill that the tournament helped her team identify adjustments for the postseason. She emphasized the value of challenging the Lady Zizzers against strong competition.

That is important context for the district tournament. West Plains enters postseason play having faced opponents capable of testing the team’s execution under pressure.

Where District 6 Stands

West Plains has the district’s best overall record entering the tournament.

These are regular-season records, not the official seed order. They provide context, but the bracket and results on the court will determine who advances.

The Championship Road Begins Tuesday

The No. 1 Lady Zizzers open against No. 8 McDonald County on Tuesday, October 20, at 4:30 p.m. at Logan-Rogersville High School.

According to the West Plains Daily Quill’s October 16 tournament preview, a West Plains victory would set up a Saturday semifinal against the winner of Hillcrest and Logan-Rogersville.

That would bring another familiar opponent into the picture. West Plains defeated both teams during the regular season.

The reported semifinal time is 2 p.m. Saturday, October 24, with the district championship scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 27.

Carl Junction, Willard, Springfield Central, and Parkview make up the other half of the reported bracket.

What to Watch Next

Tuesday’s opener against McDonald County is the immediate priority.

West Plains brings a substantially stronger regular-season record into that matchup, but the Lady Zizzers still have to earn their place in the semifinals.

If they advance, the next match could provide a rematch against Hillcrest or Logan-Rogersville. Those earlier victories are encouraging, especially with a district championship berth at stake.

The opportunity is there.

The Lady Zizzers have put together a tremendous regular season, earned the No. 1 seed, and given Zizzer fans plenty to look forward to.

Now it’s time for postseason volleyball.
