Zizzers Go 3-0 Defeating Camdenton 41-7
At week 3, the rankings are mostly best guesses, but the Zizzers were ranked Class 4 No. 6 and Camdenton was ranked No. 5. The Zizzers proved that those rankings early in the season are almost meaningless, handing the Lakers another defeat, 41-7. This win, takes the Zizzers to a 3-0 record for the season, and marks the 5th time we’ve defeated Camdenton out of the last 7 times we’ve played them (6 of those games on the Lakers’ home field), going back to 2013.
In the past few years, we’ve faced Camdenton each regular season and even once in post-season. Those games have usually been very intense to say the least, with the Zizzers barely coming out with a last minute victory a few times. But this game was not to be like those others.
However, it started a bit rough for the Zizzers when the Lakers opened with an 83 yard pass, followed with a 2 yard touchdown run to go up 7-0 with less than a minute in the game. Yikes!
But our Zizzers did not allow that to deter them. Zizzers followed up with 41 unanswered points, including an hour long weather delay (yes, the Zizzer mascot made it’s appearance several times as storms moved through the area).
Marcak took a punt return way deep into Laker ground, and Ackerson put our first points on the board, with a Cressman extra point kick. Later, a fumble gave Lidgard a perfect touchdown opportunity and we’re up 14-7 after Cressman’s extra point. Mitchell intercepted near the end of the 1st qtr, but a penalty stopped it.
Jett carried for 15 but a penalty followed in the next play. Warren, Marcak and Lidgard moved the ball down the field for another touchdown. 21-7.
Rackley to Warren for another score and a Cressman extra point. 28-7. Eric Washington got a 13-yard sack, and Sebastian Agnew followed with another sack, which allowed Bryson Collins to grab the ball and score, followed by Cressman’s extra point. 35-7.
Jett grabbed the final touchdown of the night, 41-7.
The Laker’s defense did force our offense to earn every yard, little by little. But our Zizzer Offense did their job and earned their points. BUT special kudos to our Zizzer Defense for earning a touchdown!
Now… about the penalties. The Zizzers did get pushed out of the red zone FOUR times because of penalties. We’ve got to get better on reducing our penalties. But a win is a win!
- Rackley gets 8 completions, 71 yards, 2 TDs
- Lidgard gets 38 carries for 177 yards, 2 TDs
- Warren gets 3 completions, 25 yards and 1 TD
