Zizzers Rout Rolla 63-28, Finish Season 7-2

The Zizzers finished their regular season with a record of 7-2 after easily defeating Rolla’s Bulldogs with a 63-28 victory. Zizzers move on to District Round 1 competition next.

The Zizzers started out on the very first play, by recovering their kickoff to Rolla after a fumble. Then 3 downs later, they scored on a Brayden Lidgard drive – not surprising when you consider he’s rushed for 33 TDs this season alone. Of course Trey Cressman’s kick was good and the Zizzers were up 7-0 in about a minute.

On the next kickoff to Rolla – guess what? Rolla fumbled the ball again! And the Zizzers recovered it again! But then the Zizzers turned around and fumbled on their second play. In the first 2 minutes of game play, there were 3 fumbles total.

But the Zizzer defense stopped Rolla and forced a punt, turning the ball back into Zizzer offensive hands… the very capable hands (and legs) of Brayden Lidgard who scored again after a very impressive 55-yard zig-zag scramble into the end zone. Cressman’s kick was good and the Zizzers were up 14-0 in a few minutes of game play.

Zizzer defense stepped up again and stopped Rolla, forcing another punt.  And another successful Zizzer drive to the end zone – this time it was Lane Jett #39 running 28 yards for the touchdown. And the Zizzer crowd went wild! Cressman’s kick was good, as usual and the Zizzers were up 21-0.

However, Rolla answered back with a successful drive to the end zone. 21-7 Zizzers lead. But Garel McGinley #6 returned the kickoff to the 45-yard line for a great starting point! And the Zizzers ended that drive with a QB keeper TD from Connor Rackley #8 – who ran it for 45 yards! Zizzers are up 28-7.

But, Rolla answered back with a quick drive and a score off a 43-yard pass. Zizzers up 28-14 and still lots of time on the clock in the first half. And who would have guessed that Lidgard would return a kickoff for a 46-yard touchdown? Cressman’s kick was good again. Zizzers up 35-14.

After the Zizzer defense stopped Rolla again, forcing another punt, Lidgard did it again! He broke free from his defenders for a 41-yard run to the end zone. Cressman’s kick was blocked by an extremely offside defender (we have video to prove it). 41-14 Zizzers lead.

Zizzers kick to Rolla with less than a minute in the half. Zizzer defense stops Rolla’s drive. Lidgard scrambles and scores off a 42-yard drive – with the clock at zero! Zizzer attempt a 2-point conversion – and it’s good! Zizzer lead Rolla 49-14 at the half!

The beginning of the next half started just as dramatically as the first quarter – with a 65-yard quarterback keeper sprint from Rackley (it was more like a 75-yard sprint). Cressman’s kick is good, and the Zizzers lead 56-14 at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.

But Rolla quickly answered back with a successful drive. 56-21, Zizzers lead in the 3rd quarter. Coach Ary began to pull some of his starters out, and the turbo clock kicked in, as some of our JV players took the field. Lidgard was able to find the end zone one more time, bringing the score to 63-21.

Rolla scored again in the 4th quarter, making it 63-28 – Zizzers. The turbo clock finally ran out as our JV Zizzers were leading a successful drive down the field.
