Congrats to Zizzer Football for crushing Bolivar at Districts Round 2 and advancing to Round 3 against Webb City.
According to the record books, Bolivar and West Plains should have had a closer game than they did. Until facing the Zizzers, Bolivar’s record was the same as the Zizzers: 9-1. Bolivar is ranked 10th in the state, and the Zizzers are ranked 8th, in Class 4. Both teams have impressive offensive weapons. But this game was not just about offense!
Bolivar flexed their offensive muscle early in the game and drew first blood. And some Zizzer fans might have been a little worried by that show of force. But by half time, the Zizzers offensive machine had answered back and they were up 21-12.
After the half, it was an all Zizzers game. Bolivar was shut out, and they never found the end zone again. The Zizzer defense learned how to read Bolivar’s offense and adjust accordingly. It was a great defensive night for the Zizzers with several interceptions and sacks. And on offense, you could have simply played a broken record: Hall gives the ball to Martin or Hoopes; Cobb blocks; Hoopes run it in for the TD; Cressman’s kick is good for the extra point. Rinse and repeat.
There were other great performances from players like Deitrich, Holloway and Cobb, as well as Osmun. And with guys like Spencer, Nichols and Midori, Neuschwander could take the rest of the evening off to rest and recuperate – to get ready for Webb City.
