Both Varsity Zizzer Cross Country teams dominated at home in the annual Zizzer Invitational. Congratulations to the Zizzer Varsity Boys and Girls Cross Country teams!
The annual Zizzer Invitational doesn’t attract a huge number of schools to compete. But this yearly program is not really about the numbers of runners competing – it’s about continuing to promote and grow our own local pack of runners, starting as young as Kindergarten!
Of course, it’s terrific when we see many other schools participating and driving long distances to run against some of the best runners in SWMO – and we want to see more of it!
But what this event really does – is attract and recruit our own local young runners. After the Varsity races complete, you’ll notice the large crowds of middle school and elementary kids lining up to run their own cross country races.
Many of the local rural feeder schools show up in large numbers to compete – and it’s great to see those young faces smiling as the Varsity and JV ZizzerXC teams cheer them on to victory! This year we saw a handful of little kindergartners running and it was the cutest thing ever! THAT is how you build a successful long-term cross country program.
We’ve grown used to amazing results from the Zizzer Cross Country program, but we should never take it for granted – our runners are among the best in our state and our coaching staff has the experience to keep this program going for many more years.
